Nicole Richie was born Nicole Camille Escovedo on September 21, 1981 in Berkeley, California. She is the adopted daughter of pop legend Lionel Richie and his first wife, Brenda. Her biological father is musician Pete Escovedo, brother of Sheila E. and son of famed percussionist Pete Escovedo. Nicole began living with the Richies as a toddler; the adoption was finalized when she was nine years old. Nicole is the god-daughter of singer Michael Jackson and oil heiress Nancy Davis. Nicole and Paris Hilton have been close friends since the age of two when they were classmates in the Buckley School. After high school, Nicole attended the University of Arizona. Besides starring in "The Simple Life" and sequel with pal Paris, Nicole is working on an album. She lives in Los Angeles with her dogs Honeychild and Sexy Cleopatra.

Nicole Richie Prepared to Accept Responsibility for Drug Arrest  12/13/06

Nicole Richie has vowed to accept responsibility for her arrest for driving under the influence on Monday (11DEC06) and deal with any other issues related to the incident.

The Simple Life star was released from custody after posting $15,000 bail and is waiting to learn the results of a blood test.

Richie's attorney Howard Weitzman says, "This is a difficult time for Nicole but she is prepared to accept whatever responsibility is appropriate.

"She intends to continue with her career and will deal with any other issues that need to be addressed."

New surveillance camera footage has been released showing Richie talking with officers and failing field sobriety tests before being placed under arrest.

The 25-year-old socialite admitted to officers at the time that she had smoked marijuana earlier in the evening and had also consumed the prescription painkiller Vicodin.

The District Attorney's office has not filed charges at this time, but Richie's arraignment has been scheduled for 7 February (07).

She is not required to be present in court and an attorney can appear on her behalf.
